Claude answer

What are those strange words while Claude is thinking?

While Claude Code is working, it shows playful status words that rotate in the chat. They don't describe what it is actually doing at that moment. They are just there to make the wait feel less mechanical.

Most of them are real English words, just rare, old-fashioned or informal ones that even native speakers seldom use. Some examples:

Flibbertigibbeting - chattering flightily. A "flibbertigibbet" is an old word for a silly, talkative person, used here as a verb.
Discombobulating - confusing or disconcerting (American slang from the 1800s).
Cogitating - thinking deeply (formal, from Latin).
Ruminating - thinking something over slowly, like a cow chewing cud.
Percolating - slowly filtering through, like coffee; also an idea gradually forming.
Noodling - casually tinkering or thinking loosely.
Moseying - walking in a slow, relaxed way (American).
Lollygagging - dawdling, wasting time.
Kerfuffling - from "kerfuffle", a commotion or fuss (British).
Schlepping - lugging something heavy or tedious (from Yiddish).
Transmogrifying - transforming in a surprising or magical way.

A few are invented or bent, usually by adding "-ing" to a noun. Examples are "Clauding" (a play on the name) and "Kerfuffling". They are still made from real roots.

So if you don't recognise them, you haven't missed anything basic. They were picked to be whimsical, and many native speakers would have to look some of them up too.
